What say you about this: Just 53% of Americans believe Capitalism is better than Socialism?

Question by Tea: What say you about this: Just 53% of Americans believe Capitalism is better than Socialism?
Here’s the article (released 4/9/09):

Only 53% of American adults believe capitalism is better than socialism.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 20% disagree and say socialism is better. Twenty-seven percent (27%) are not sure which is better.

Adults under 30 are essentially evenly divided: 37% prefer capitalism, 33% socialism, and 30% are undecided. Thirty-somethings are a bit more supportive of the free-enterprise approach with 49% for capitalism and 26% for socialism. Adults over 40 strongly favor capitalism, and just 13% of those older Americans believe socialism is better.

Investors by a 5-to-1 margin choose capitalism. As for those who do not invest, 40% say capitalism is better while 25% prefer socialism.

There is a partisan gap as well. Republicans – by an 11-to-1 margin – favor capitalism. Democrats are much more closely divided: Just 39% say capitalism is better while 30% prefer socialism. As for those not affiliated with either major political party, 48% say capitalism is best, and 21% opt for socialism.

The question posed by Rasmussen Reports did not define either capitalism or socialism

It is interesting to compare the new results to an earlier survey in which 70% of Americans prefer a free-market economy. The fact that a “free-market economy” attracts substantially more support than “capitalism” may suggest some skepticism about whether capitalism in the United States today relies on free markets.

Other survey data supports that notion. Rather than seeing large corporations as committed to free markets, two-out-of-three Americans believe that big government and big business often work together in ways that hurt consumers and investors.

Fifteen percent (15%) of Americans say they prefer a government-managed economy, similar to the 20% support for socialism. Just 14% believe the federal government would do a better job running auto companies, and even fewer believe government would do a better job running financial firms.

Most Americans today hold views that can generally be defined as populist while only seven percent (7%) share the elitist views of the Political Class.

Most Americans truly do not know what socialism is. One example is the Soviet Union and they failed. Things will get better in America because one key facts of Capitalism is that the economy will eventually level itself out and become normal again. Also, in Socialism all people are paid the same and theres no more will to work or try to rise on the social pyramid.

Does Australia have socialized medicine? Relocating to Perth from USA-daughter needs endocrinology specialist.

Question by DLS: Does Australia have socialized medicine? Relocating to Perth from USA-daughter needs endocrinology specialist.
I am a registered nurse and will be transplanting my large family to Australia-looking at Perth. We can only consider the big cities because my adopted daughter has nesidioblastosis and needs to maintain a regular relationship with a pediatric endocrinologist. I do adult nursing and desire to work in a regular surgical hospital. Do I need special medical insurance for my family since we will be residents on a work visa? Can I get this care for my daughter? Do the hospitals help their employees with medical costs? Does anyone know if the children’s hospital in Perth is adjuncted to a regular adult hospital so I can work in a hospital affiliated with the children’s hospital? The housing market is so expensive in your country. Is there an area close to the hospitals that is safe for a large family that doesn’t know the country-yet affordable? I pay $ 1350/month in the US for a five bedroom 1970′s home with a pool in an excellent school district. What can I expect in the Perth area 4 this?

I’ve put a link below for real estate which has an interactive system so you can check out rentals in Perth. Make sure you check the location maps of the area, as Perth is a large, spread out city, and what seems like a cheap rental can end up costing you a lot in petrol or fares.

Most areas of Perth, and most most Australian cities, are very safe by US standards. Naturally, there are criminals everywhere, but the crime rates and types of crimes in Australia seem to be sugnificantly lower than in the US according to many friends from the US. One reason for this is that guns are not easy to get, so the incidence of shootings is very low, and the need for schools’ protection, etc, is therefore quite a lot less.

However, suburbs near hospitals of any kind are naturally very popular places for people to rent homes in, and you may find that they are more expensive for that reason.

Your children can attend their local public school, or may be able to travel to another school if you prefer, or they can attend a private school. You would need to visit local schools and speak with the principal to see what they offer, as there are often different programmes available.

Regarding medical costs, the short answer is yes ~ and no. Australia does have socialised medicine, but it is for Australian citizens and it is not automatically open to visitors, even long term visitors.

Most people find it best to continue their travel/medical insurance for a period of time after arriving in any country, but once you are here, make sure you visit a Medicare office to find out what your rights are regarding medical treatment for all your family.

If you work here, one per cent of your salary will be automatically deducted for Medicare (the name of our universal health scheme) costs, so you will have some sort of entitlement after a waiting period, unless you receive an exemption.

There is a facility whereby vistors to this country can pay a fee to Medicare and be eligible for some medical benefits at Australian hospitals, including emergency care.

Additionally, you can purchase private medical insurance in Australia at reasonable rates (a ‘top cover’ family policy which makes me eligible for treatment in any public or private hospital for any medical condition and a variety of ancillary benefits such as optical and dental) currently costs me a little over $ AUD200 per month. There are usually ‘waiting periods’ for some benefits with these programmes.

Australian employers do not typically become involved in employee’s medical insurance.

Children’s hospitals in Australia are full hospitals in their own right, and are not necessarily affiliated with other hospitals, In fact, children’s hospitals tend to get a higher level of funding and community support, so they do not need to be affiliated with any other hospitals.

I’ve put some links below which may be useful.

Good luck!

Q&A: Anyone know a great business design?

Question by A Unique Mind: Anyone know a great business design?
After years of being disappointed in all the online businesses I have come across, I am now looking at starting my own online business. I want to start my own business because I am so sick of the way these other online businesses work. Such as the very popular affiliate programs. In order for people to make a decent amount of money from it they have to be really good at marketing. 90% of affiliates fail miserably making nothing or next to nothing. It can be very difficult to make money online especially for the average person. Not to mention countless scams out there taking advantage of the newbies. I do not want to join a business & promote it for others to join too, knowing damn well that 90% of the people I bring into the business are simply going fail. They will put their time, energy, effort & money into it & are going to fail. Some will succeed but most will fail. That’s just the way these businesses are. I do not want to be responsible for bringing people into this sort of thing. I do not want to take someones money & then watch them fail miserably. All the different online business opportunities I’ve seen have their flaws. Whether it’s affiliate programs, cash gifting, paid surveys, paid to click ads, paid to read emails, auto surf sites, any referral programs, or any other thing, they all seem to have one thing in common. That the vast majority of people that join the business are doomed to fail. Or at least make very little money that they certainly cannot live off. I have been searching for a perfect business where it is easy for everyone to make money. All I have seen all over the place are businesses that really only work for the people on the top, while the vast majority fail. Some of these are very competitive businesses too. And none are a win/win situation where everyone is better off, there is always someone worse off. So basically I have been researching, reading, doing some critical thinking, to come up with some sort of revolutionary design where everyone wins & it is generally very easy for everyone to make money. I have had a few ideas better then your average online business opportunity but none are that great. I have been thinking of everything I can to make it easy for someone to make money online but I can’t really guarantee people will succeed. I am beginning to think such a perfect business does not exist. If it did why hasn’t anyone created such a thing yet?
I am trying to create an online business where it is generally easy to make money for anybody. No hype, no scam, no bs, just a damn good honest business that actually works for everyone.
I’m just looking for any advice or opinions on business designs & any info you think might help in the creation of a ‘perfect business’.
Thank you for any comments.
